American Jewish World Service To Provides Close to $300,000 To Relief Organizations Helping Victims of 9-11 Attacks

November 13, 2001 - American Jewish World Service (AJWS) will be among the first New York organizations to distribute its funds for 9-11 terrorist attack relief. On Friday, November 16, at 2:00, AJWS will be presenting a number of its grantees (full list below) with checks. The Local 100 Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees New York Assistance Fund will be the largest recipient and will receive a check for over $150,000. The majority of the grant will extend health coverage for the families of the deceased or currently unemployed restaurant workers who were employed at Windows on the World.
Noviembre 13, 2001 - El Servicio Mundial de Judios Americanos (AJWS) estaran entre las primeras organizaciones de New York distribuyendo fondos de apoyo a los afectados de los ataques de Septiembre 11. El viernes 16 de Noviembre, a las 2:00 PM, la AJWS estara entregando cheques que ha concedido a varias organizaciones. El Fondo de Asistencia de la Local 100 de Empleados de Hoteles y Restaurantes sera el que recibira mas, un cheque de $150,000. La mayoria del fondo que sera extendido sera para cubrir los seguros de salud para las familias de los fallecidos o de los actualmente trabajadores de restaurant que estan desempleados y que fueron empleados de Windows of the World
Other groups attending the conference who will also be receiving grants are the Chinese Staff and Workers Association and Asociacion Tepeyac de New York.
Otros grupos participando de la conferencia y que tambien recibiran fondos son: La Asociacion de Trabajadores y Equipo Chino, y la Asociacion Tepeyac de New York.
Although AJWS is a non-profit organization that usually provides development and relief aid to the developing world, the organization acted in response to the domestic attacks of September 11th, receiving donations and making the majority of its grants to groups that provide support to low income workers' families. AJWS is disbursing the money it raised without hiring any additional staff. A full list of its grants will be available at the press conference.
Aunque la AJWS es una organizacion no lucrativa que usualmente provee ayuda para el desarrollo mundial, la organizacion actuo en respuesta a los ataques domesticos de Septiembre 11, recibiendo donativos y ofreciendolos a los grupos que poreecn apoyo a las familias de trabajadores de bajos ingresos. "We felt obligated to get the money to people who need it, and to do that both quickly and efficiently," Ruth Messinger, President of AJWS, said. "We have done due diligence to identify groups that are ready to make a difference and we want to help them get on with their work," she added.
