DAILY STAR Tuesday, 30 April 2002 / Tucson, Arizona, USA Mexican degrees will come via PCC By Tim Steller ARIZONA DAILY STAR A Mexican university is planning to offer business-related bachelor's degrees through Pima Community College to students who take courses in Spanish over the Internet. Officials of PCC and the Universidad TecMilenio of Monterrey, Mexico, agreed to the groundbreaking venture Monday. Courses will be offered this fall. Florencio I. Zaragoza, who is coordinating the program at PCC's Community Campus, said he knows of no other program like it in the United States. It will mean students need visit the campus only to take an admissions exam, attend an orientation session and take a final exam. "They can live in Phoenix or Yuma or anywhere, and they have to come here just three times. Everything else they can do by computer from wherever they are, and if they don't have a computer, here they have Pima's computers," Zaragoza said. At the beginning the program will offer degrees in six business-related fields: business administration, marketing management, public accounting, industrial engineering, international management and information management. Students will not simply do readings for the course on their computers but will be required to do frequent group exercises, always over the Internet, said Cesar Barraza, the Universidad TecMilenio's director of institutional development.
